Cinco - purebred Arabian mare registered Sonoma Cinco, 16 years, grey, 14.2H

Cinco was born, you guessed it, on Cinco de Mayo out of a Nadom daughter named Sonoma Presence--'Misty' for short.  She has only been ridden on the ranch. I thought she would be the horse that would carry me on the trails in my golden years--or should I say platinum years. Sadly that is not going to happen.  Circumstances have forced us to find homes for most of our horses and the only ones we are keeping cannot be ridden and are too vulnerable to pass along.
Cinco's birth was a small miracle. First time mother, Misty, was apparently afraid to foal at night in the foaling pen without the herd to help her, so she had Cinco at 9:30 in the morning in the middle of a herd of fourteen horses in the grazing pasture.  Then she ran away and the other mares took over.  One of them, probably Ivy, the lead mare, licked off the little birthing pads on Cinco's feet and the rest of them formed a circle around the foal and kept all the geldings and older babies away until we came back outside and realized what was going on.  For two days we had to hold Misty so Cinco could nurse as she was literally scared to death of her new baby.  By day three her mothering instincts kicked in and we could catch some sleep.  Between the imprinting we did to her and the holding of her mamma while she nursed, Cinco was one of the easiest of all the babies to handle and train.  She will be someone's best friend and trail buddy.
