And so ends the saga of Cheyenne/Basho in the land of the human beings. Basho - gathered and gelded at the age of 2 from a range north of Reno on the CA border - has struggled all his life to NOT be a domestic horse. He finally ended up at the Petaluma Livestock auction headed for a really nasty end.

SAFER intercepted that end; but could not find a solution for him despite many trainers and tryers. Two years we have had him....much too long for our program.

Now he will be looked after a couple times a year out at Ellie Price's Montgomery Creek Ranch Mustang Refuge. Thank goodness for the gracious participation of Kimberly Carlisle at Flag Foundation in Sebastopol who put me in touch with Ellie Price. A heartfelt thanks!

Here is the story of his journey Home.

A big thank you to Carleene Cady in Lake County who found this 2000 V10 GMC for us and to Ryan McElroy for fixing it up for us! Wow - after 6 years - SAFER has a truck!! Now we are broke...

Lisa McElroy, Lee Chesterfield and I pull into Petaluma Pastures at 8:30...Its going to be a long day...even longer if his Aloofness will not co-operate.

On a mission to fetch the Bad Boy. Me and Lee Chesterfield. We mean business. You can tell by the wad of alfalfa…..After this all day trip I still have to figure out how to get over 200 bales of hay out of a Sonoma Field and into a stack at Adobe.

But Basho joins right up and is very pleasant! We have been talking to him about this day for many months.....

He is a perfect gentleman and follows me without fuss and fanfare.....

He abandons his girlfriend without a backward glance; very unusual. She is dismayed and tries to follow him. She is a blue blooded Morgan, 10 yrs see her HERE
